I'm a Student

Hi everyone!  It's me, Mitch!

Guess what?

I'm going to school!

I have not been being the bestest boy on a leash on my daily walkies.   Mom and dad think I have some fear aggression issues and they weren't getting any better so they decided that they needed to do something about this before it gets any worse.
So mom called Paws n Effect and got me an appointment to meet a trainer so that she could see exactly what was going on with me.

I have been wearing a prong collar for a couple of years now and the very first thing that Kathy said was, no more prong collar!   Maggie wore a Gentle Leader for years and this is what I'll be wearing from now on.
Kathy is making sure that the fit is just right for me. Kathy is very nice. She likes me!
Kathy gave me lots of yummy treats and I did whatever she asked me to because I wanted more and more treats!
I've never been to doggie classes before so this was a new experience for me and mom and dad were surprised that I did as well as I did.
I followed Kathy wherever she went and I listened to her.   I  like her!  She's my new friend!

I also got to run free and boy, was it ever fun!  Look at all of this room I have to run and run and run!
I also met 3 new doggie friends and I was pretty good with all of them.  I even got to interact with Mr. Ace and I liked him and I wanted to continue to play with him but Kathy told me not this time.

Ninety minutes went by so fast and I was pooped at the end of my session.   Mom and dad have lots of great tips and homework to do to make sure that I'll be the bestest boy ever.

And guess what else?

I'm enrolled in classes that will start in about a month.  I'm going to be going to school with other doggies and learning basic obedience and I'm psyched!
I want to be the smartest boy in my class and mom says that with lots of work, I will be!
Today was so much fun!

So until next time..............

Yer friend,
Mitch

  1. Sounds like you did pretty good during your appointment. Melissa used to train me with a Gentle Leader when I was a 4 months old pup. I didn't like it much but I no longer pulled anymore until Melissa switched back to normal soft collars & choke chains. I bet you can't wait for the new class to start! Just remember, when it comes to training, always have fun & don't give your hoomie any headaches.

  3. Gold Star for you! But I suppose a treat is better.

Keep up with the homework and before you know it, you'll be at the actual barn raisings!

SHE finds we're better behaved off the leashes....not so aggressive...as long as there are no cats.

    Well done, Mitch

  6. Ciara is still wearing her Gentle Leader as she still pulls a lot for the first 10 minutes of our walktime. The Momster says maybe she needs to get her act in gear and take her to school too. We boys worry she might get expelled:)

    Happy weekend.

  8. Well done Mitch ! It sounds like you are going to be a star pupil. Gentle leaders are the best - that is what we use too. You are going to have so much fun in class.

  9. We are certain that you'll be at the top of your class in no time! I kinda pull (and sometimes jump a wee bit), and Mom got me this harness thingy that stopped me pulling (according to my school teacher, I'm a bit of a spaz, and the jumping will only be cured by 'socialization'....). Good luck, and have fun!

  17. Go Mitch! We go to school at least twice a week and we love it. There are always lots of treats for good dogs. Gracie still wears a prong collar sometimes, because even though she KNOWS how to walk politely - she sometimes gets too excited to remember. Love that big space you have to train in.
    cheers,
    Ruby and Gracie

I really do think I need to have an expert come see why I have so many anxities. Maybe they could figure it our for me.

  23. Hi Mitch, school will be fine. I understand the fear aggression issue, my brother Owen has that and so does my other brother. Owen goes ballistic if he sees another dog on the street if it's nearby. My mom and dad have been working with Owen but he's been like this for a while. But we're all hopeful.

  26. School is cool, Mitch! I loved my OB class and I enjoyed every moment of it because I got to have lots of treats. My mom was really generous during the lessons and I behaved very well so I got all the treats in her bag. Remember, what you've to do is simple, you just have to listen to your teacher and your mom and do what they tell you to do. You will enjoy it as it's full of fun and you will have so many friends too.
Have fun!!! I'm sure you will be the star pupil there as you're the smartest boy in the class!

  27. Not sure what a prong collar is, I have an idea but I think they are illegal in the UK. I use a gentle leader on Wilbur & he still battles with it but Pickles is on a collar.

    Glad you enjoyed school x

  28. Mitchy boy, we know you will be the bestest student ever! Our mom would like to send me (Patches) to school so I could learn to sit nicely when Mom wants to do something to me. She says it's like trying to do something to a pirahna!...not to mention a wiggle worm!

We hope you have lots of fun in your new school class!

  37. Well, Mitch, I will tell you that school totally rocks. You get lots of noms and nobody bugs you or gets in your face. I, Mango, however do struggle with translating good dog school behavior into the real world where dogs and people pop out of nowhere and look like they are threatening me. Especially those kids with back packs. Grrr, grr, grr. Good luck and keep us posted.
